Colors can also have an impact on our mood and emotions. Research shows certain colors can be calming, while others can energize. The following nurseries, bedrooms, and playrooms were all designed by top names from around the country, all of whom are offering their insights into the best colors for kids' rooms with us. Buttery Yellow

L.A.-based designer David Netto is a fan of Farrow & Ball 218 Yellow Ground for kids' rooms, as shown here in this Manhattan nursery.

"It's sunny and sophisticated," Netto says. "It's not the happiest yellow out there, but sometimes you want one that sits down a little."

Classic Blue and White

"In this chic West Village boy's room, I wanted to incorporate a vast array of blue, soft taupe, and white hues and tones," says designer Nicole Fuller. "The ceiling was painted in All White by Farrow & Ball to emphasize the wonderful height of the room."

The built-in cabinetry was also painted Skimming Stone by Farrow & Ball to pair with the room's range of hues.

Patterned Wallpaper

This little boy's room in Manhattan offers plenty of room to evolve as he grows and his interests change. Peter Sandel offers a nice contrast and style that isn't too mature with a dark teal wall and a subdued patterned wallpaper on another.

Chalk Paint

What could be more fun to paint playroom walls with than chalk paint? Manhattan-based designer Matthew Caughy offers a nice contrast to this otherwise light and airy room in a Madison Square Park apartment with a black accent wall, leaving the rest of the walls a cream shade. Colorful toys, art, and flooring stand out even more in this fun scene.

Bright Whites

This Khoury & Vogt vacation home in Alys Beach is all about ancient Roman architecture and a modern Mediterranean motif, which translates to this beautiful bedroom. The owners of the home worked with the architecture firm to create a trio of platform beds in this children's suite, which is designed to look built into the wall.

Blue-Green Hues

"I love soft, calming colors for a nursery and am a big fan of sophisticated hues that can still work as a baby grows older," says Nicole Gibbons, founder and CEO of Clare, a paint company. "Youthful spaces are perfect for having a bit of fun with color. I love color-blocking with two-toned walls and think a pop of color on the ceiling is a great way to make a statement."

This nursery features Clare's Chill on the walls and Headspace on the ceiling. Gibbons says Chill offers a soothing, barely-there shade of gray with green undertones that feels fresh and tranquil, while Headspace brings a sense of calm with its airy blue-green hue.

"Ballet Slipper" Pink

Martyn Lawrence Bullard designed this precious room for Khloe Kardashian's daughter with child-friendly glamour in mind. He chose this muted pink (similar option, here) because it's "an intensely feminine color that is both warm and inviting without overpowering the space."

Painted Floors

Since Netto opted for a heavy-patterned wallpaper to adorn the walls of this Southern California bedroom, he chose to paint the floors with Benjamin Moore Floor & Patio high-gloss enamel in White 01.

"It's a bright, clean, and, most importantly, a shiny white that bounces light up into any space," Netto says. "A white high-gloss floor is my favorite way to make you feel bohemian or like you're on a porch in Maine."

Little Boy Blue

"This is the perfect calming blue that is light and neutral feeling, perfect for including doors and ceilings, and sophisticated without being too childish," Sasha Bikoff says of Benjamin Moore's Little Boy Blue, which creates a calming scene in this Upper West Side nursery.

Vanilla

Bullard also worked with Kourtney Kardashian to create a fun and feminine kids' room. Here, Bullard uses Benjamin Moore's Vanilla Ice Cream, which he says allows a child to grow into their space and frees them up to change the vibe of a room with new decor and accessories as they age.

"I kept it simple in color palette, yet warm and inviting, so the bed and the toys could become the star features within the room," Bullard says. "I'm a big lover of color, but sometimes it's nice to create a more serene backdrop for children, thus allowing their personality to come out with the furnishings, toys, and art."

Ocean Blue

Manhattan-based designer Nick Olsen finds Benjamin Moore's Crystal Springs in an eggshell finish to be his go-to for kids' rooms.

"I've used this shade of pale aqua in many children's rooms because it's cheerful, gender neutral, and lends itself to so many fun color pairings," Olsen says. "And it's just as appropriate in city apartments as it is at the beach. As the kids grow older, aqua is still a perfect backdrop for a more sophisticated room."

Summer Stripes

Christopher Rollinson also worked with Nichols's team to create this beautifully striped kids' room using Farrow & Ball's Middleton Pink. Nichols says she loves both the pastel pink and purple colors for kids' rooms as they are soft enough to grow with them.

Heavy Pattern and Contrast

Leave it to designer Miles Redd to combine all these colors, patterns, and textures into one incredible kids' room. Full of childlike wonder and high-brow design elements, this room is one that can truly mature alongside the child it was designed for.

"I love the strong, happy vibes they convey, and there are ways to do them that endure to adulthood," Redd says, regarding the use of wallpaper and primary colors in a childhood bedroom.
